The County Assemblies Forum (CAF) met with the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action to explore collaboration on gender equality, inclusive leadership, and women’s empowerment. The partnership aims to strengthen gender-responsive governance and support initiatives, including the Women Legislators Conference 2026.
The County Assemblies Forum (CAF), led by Secretary General Hon. Chege Mwaura, held a consultative meeting with Ms. Anne Wang’ombe, Principal Secretary, State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, to explore areas of collaboration aimed at advancing gender equality, inclusive leadership, and equitable access to opportunities across the 47 counties.
The engagement reaffirmed CAF’s commitment to promoting gender-responsive governance and ensuring that county assemblies play a leading role in advancing equality and empowerment at the devolved level. Discussions focused on developing collaborative frameworks to enhance women’s representation in leadership, strengthen gender-sensitive legislation, and build the capacity of county assemblies to address challenges affecting women and other marginalized groups.
Recognizing the importance of partnerships in driving meaningful change, both CAF and the State Department expressed a shared commitment to implementing initiatives that promote equitable participation in governance and fair resource allocation. The proposed collaboration will also support CAF’s flagship programmes, particularly the Women Legislators Conference (WLC) 2026, which seeks to strengthen women’s political participation and leadership within devolved units.
The meeting comes at a time when efforts to advance inclusive governance and gender equality remain central to Kenya’s development agenda. Through such strategic partnerships, CAF continues to champion a devolved governance system that upholds inclusivity, fairness, and equal representation, while creating opportunities for all citizens to participate meaningfully in decision-making processes.
